Reflection for December 6

Matthew 9:27-31

For me, the whole meaning of this gospel is faith…the faith to trust and believe in the power of the Lord. The blind men showed trust and faith and that they believed He was worthy of their faith. And then the fact that they disobeyed Him, even though all could see for themselves that the men had their sight restored. They told the people of Him…not of themselves, which was also a testament to their faith and joy, that they wanted to share it with others. Even today’s first reading speaks of the blind seeing…“And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see” (Isaiah 29:18).

A miracle of faith for sure.

What does this teach us today? To have faith and trust in the Lord? To believe in Him? To share with others the goodness, care, compassion, and mercy that He shows us? We cannot let spiritual blindness hinder us from seeing and believing. As this Advent season is upon us, it is the perfect time to open our eyes, see the gifts around us, be grateful, and be ready to trust and believe as the blind men did in our gospel of today.
